Name someone to start the conversation.Choose a trusted person and tell them where your written wishes will be kept.

Write down what matters to you.Consider burial or cremation, a gathering, music, faith traditions and the people you want involved.

Ask local providers for itemized prices.Compare what is included and ask separately about cemetery, vault, marker and other charges.

Take stock of existing coverage.List the insurer and its contact number. Review who is named as beneficiary and how to report a claim.

Decide how costs could be covered.Consider money intentionally set aside and existing benefits before discussing additional insurance.

Tell your family where to find the plan.Keep documents somewhere your trusted person can access. Record document locations, not passwords.

Review after a life change.Revisit the plan after a move, marriage, death in the family or change in coverage.
